So here we are… Day three of the government shut down and yours truly, that’s right… this lowly Vista member, is working without pay! Wooo! Not that my pay was much to begin with, but now it’s just unnerving. Okay, I will get back-paid, it’s just a question of when the federal employee is back in his/her office to sign my check from the Federal Treasury… And who knows when that will be. Awesome, right? … Wrong. Oh, SO. SO. SO. WRONG.
See? I’m so mad that I can’t even deliver sarcasm properly. That’s how real it’s getting, folks. I’m too mad to be sarcastic… … WAAAH.
But in all seriousness… let’s dig into this shut down and really get into what it’s about…
The Tea Party Republicans would have you believing that this is about ObamaCare, AKA the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and just in case you were curious… Those two things are THE SAME. Yes, apparently that needs to be said out loud… At least for these people:
But in fact, this is hardly about the Affordable Care Act. It is about the Tea Party holding the country and its people hostage based on the most unconstitutional (and therefore un-American) ideologies possible.
This shut down is about a radical faction that is actively rejecting the American Constitution by NOT doing their CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY.
Confused? Here’s a little American government lesson:
- There are three branches: The Executive (which includes the President and his staff), the Judicial (which is the Supreme Court), and the Legislative (which is Congress–the two bodies of the Senate and House of Representatives).
- The Legislative Branch, also known as Congress, is responsible for creating, debating, and finalizing bills. The President then has the power to sign those bills into laws (within ten days). However, Congress can also be asked/made to create bills. This is pretty much the sole responsibility of Congress.
- One of these MANDATORY bills, is deciding on the federal budget that allocates funds for everything federally funded–from the Veterans Administration to Medicaid to military pay to National Forestry Services.
So. Do you see the issue here? These Tea Party fellows, who CHOSE to be in these positions, who ACTIVELY ran for office, are ignoring a pretty huge part of their job description. If this was any normal job, it would be performance-based, and if they didn’t complete their duties effectively and completely, they would be fired. FIRED. … And yet, here we are… Paying the assholes to hold us hostage in uncertainty. Pardon the language.
And even if this was about ObamaCare…
…there are REAL ways to repeal bills. It’s called taking it to Supreme Court. And yes, the Republicans did indeed take ObamaCare to SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) and guess what? They lost. Also, they can win a Presidential Election with a Republican candidate who will repeal the bill. Guess what? They lost that too! Mittens, or Mr. Romney, indeed campaigned on the platform that he would repeal ObamaCare. Obama, obviously campaigned that under his administration, it would move forward. And guess who is President today?! I’ll give you a hit… He’s black (and apparently that’s part of the problem for the Tea Party).
ANYWAYS.
My point remains, these individuals who call themselves representatives of the people, are only actually representative of radical Christians and wealthy white men. In fact, they aired this advertisement to discourage young women to sign up for ObamaCare which proves to me that they do not care a single bit about women…
I mean, seriously? That’s SO outrageous. The fact that they think that this is even remotely appropriate just further proves that they are so out of touch with reality. And they hate women. That’s right. I said it… THE TEA PARTY HATES WOMEN. They want to take away our choices, our birth control (which is free under ObamaCare for me and MANY others!), and by this advertisement, most of our dignity and respect. But back to the point…
Let’s actually look at it this way:
For the past 12 years, we have been fighting a war against terror. What has that meant? Two wars, countless lives, and huge spending. So you guys want to continue to fight terrorism? How about domestic terrorism? How about the radicals who are holding up our democratic process and effectively shutting down our government? How about the fact that this shutdown, if it goes on ANY longer, will do COUNTLESS damage to our economy, our peoples lives/well-being, and our power as a country. This, my friends, is what REAL and EFFECTIVE terrorism looks like…. And by being so hopeless naive and ignorant, we let these people into Congress. This is the price we are paying for our ‘benign neglect’ of the government.. It’s now out of control. Yet again, I IMPLORE you to be active on what is happening in the country as it will DIRECTLY impact your life.
And finally, a PSA:
My friendly, moderate, and reasonable Republicans. Get your shit together. Tell Boner or Boehner (okay, you’re right that was immature of me, I guess it’s pronounced BAY-NER …) to get himself together and tell the Tea Party to stop acting like three year-olds in a temper tantrum if you want to save what is left of your political party, because believe me… you will win NO elections with a 25% approval rate from the public. These Tea Party folk do not support LIMITED GOVERNMENT, they support anarchy–that is not representative of the ‘conservative’ ideals. If you don’t want an entirely liberal Congress and President in the next couple years, you better think about what is happening and write your Congresspeople.
So there you have it, folks… This really is not about ObamaCare, this is about a group who is determined to hold us, the American people, hostage because of their own ideologies and insecurities. Tell them that this is not acceptable and that the government needs to go back to work, and not piece by piece, at the same time. Tell them that this is un-American, against the democratic system and the constitution.
Tell them it needs to end, now. You have at least 1.8 million people who will back you up.
